The sun shone in through the windows as she typed. She was hiding. From the noise and frantic packing. From the heavy-lifting and the dusty boxes. And, it was working. Just a few bags a boxes left to be packaged up into the car and she was just sitting there, quietly with red glasses and freckled cheeks.
She, this girl, was going home tomorrow. She'd be able to see her parents and be able to hold her dogs. Just in time for the fourth of July too. Soon she'd see her friends again at the festival her small-town holds every year at the Rec Park. She'd see the boy she's been thinking about and friends she hasn't seen in nearly a month.
She would be able to give her friends the gifts she bought them on her vacation and she'd be able to see their joyful faces as they accepted.
All in all, she was excited. More than excited, she was ecstatic.
She picked up a piece of her dark brown hair and placed it in the way of the sunlight, watching as it turned red. A warm feeling spread around her chest as she looked at her favorite color, shining in her hair. Dropping the strand, she picked up her phone as it buzzed, signaling a text message.
It was her cousin, Bryanna. She wanted to say goodbye but was busy tonight. Maybe she'd stop by later. She typed back a reply just in time.
Her head snapped up, away from her phone as a voice called out, "Katie!"
She'd been found.
